Tampa Flight Guide
Tampa (Florida) is an exciting city with beautiful beaches and fantastically located in the Tampa Bay. The Tampa metropolitan area, which includes the popular resorts of Saint Petersburg and Clearwater, has a population of around 2.7 million people in addition to the several million tourists it attracts every year. It is well-known for its excellent weather and sandy beaches which makes it an all-year round swimming paradise at the Gulf of Mexico.
Downtown Tampa is typically American, featuring high-rise glass facades and squares with fountains that invite you to take a break and relax. Tampa Downtown is not large and can be explored on foot. In the Fowler Avenue lies the University of Tampa: A very interesting building with an Islamic-style dome and a beautiful park- a good place to go jogging or sunbathe. The Channelside district is packed with restaurants and is the main address for luxury hotels due to its great location by the Harbour. Ybor City is the historic industrial area and used to have a booming tobacco business. Nowadays it has been restored and converted into a pub and entertainment district, arguably one of the best in the entire United States. This is the place to purchase hand-rolled Cuban cigars and enjoy an authentic tobacco tradition. Probably the best known restaurant in Tampa is the Columbia Restaurant in the heart of Ybor which has a spectacular interior design and excellent Cuban, Mexican and Caribbean food. To dive into the crystal clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico and sunbathe on beautiful sandy beaches, Tampa Bay is the best place to go including Clearwater and St. Petersburg. Bush Gardens is an impressive park designed in a jungle-look with real lions and tigers, and is especially famous because of the breathtaking rides in one of the fastest roller-coasters in the US.
Tampa has three airports, the largest one being Tampa International Airport (TPA). British Airways has flight services from Australia to Tampa but it is recommended to double-check whether there are better offers by other airlines such as Delta and Northwest airlines. You may also land in Tampa Peter O. Knight Airport (TPF) depending on airlines and connections and it is also close to the city centre. Tampa’s third airport (MCF) is exclusive to the US Air Force and does not have commercial flights. Bear in mind that there will be a stop in a larger US city before connecting to Tampa, and flight times vary between 22 and 35 hours.
