Sydney is Australia's largest city and secret capital. Located on the East Coast of the smallest continent on earth, it features some of the most picturesque harbours and stunning beaches and bays. Sydney is now home to over 4.5 million people from all over the world and is often called a melting pot of culture, language and religion.
Sydney is an ideal destination for a varied and adventurous stay – from shark exhibitions to climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, visitors have plenty of options to get an adrenaline shot. Bondi Beach is a popular address for surfers, featuring excellent fish restaurants and water sport shops. Sydney nightlife is as varied as its people with plenty of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs. Newtown is a popular area to get a feeling of the artistic and alternative scene which is why it attracts many students and backpackers. A stroll along Circular Quay will take visitors from the world famous Opera House along Sydney Harbour to the historic district called ‘The Rocks’. Sydney’s history can be discovered like an open book from here and a walk over the Harbour Bridge completes the day with breathtaking views of the city centre and its harbour. A boat tour is also a good way to explore the city and find out more about Sydney and its culture.
Weather conditions in Sydney are fairly mild throughout the year but it can get very hot in summer. It is best to visit Sydney in spring from September – November where temperatures are around 20- 25°C. There are plenty of good hotels in Sydney, and a Holiday Inn branch is conveniently located in the Rocks. Bondi hostels offer backpackers fair prices only minutes from the beach. Virtually all Australian and Pacific low-budget airlines fly across Australia to Sydney. Qantas also offer national flights but for a higher price.
