Stockholm Flight Guide
Stockholm is the largest city and capital of Sweden with 795,000 people and about 24,000 small islands called “Archipelagos”. It is the seat of Parliament and the residence of the Swedish Royal Family. Sweden’s residents are among the happiest people in Europe due to the great lifestyle, excellent education and public services. Sweden is also home of the world famous IKEA chain and pop legends ABBA. Although the national language is Swedish, around 98% of all people learn English at school which makes communication very easy.
Stockholm's medieval Old Town has small alleys and winding streets that lead to the seafront. Some of the most breathtaking buildings here are the Royal Palace, the Reichstag and several palaces. Locals disapprove of the modern parts of Stockholm because over 400 historic buildings were destroyed and replaced by multi-storey buildings made of glass and steel. One of the highlights in Stockholm’s nightlife programme is the Icebar which is located in the Nordic Sea Hotel. 100% of the bar is made of ice from Lapland and the temperature lies around -5°C all year round.
Stockholm is a popular destination for students and backpackers, thus has numerous cheap hostels to choose from. The Grand Hotel InterContinental is a more luxurious address featuring a well reputed restaurant and comfortable rooms. The winter in Stockholm is very cold and snowy which adds a special character to the Scandinavian experience. Tourists who prefer mild temperatures should travel between May and October. Travelling to Stockholm from Australia takes no less than 30 hours as there are no direct flights. British Airways and Qantas offer flights via London from all major Australian airports.
