Seoul Flight Guide
Seoul is perhaps best known as venue for the 2002 Football World Cup. It is the capital of South Korea and with 10.5 million inhabitants one of the most populous cities in the world. Seoul is not only an interesting place for football fans but also for travellers who want to learn about culture and history. Similar to Istanbul and Moscow, Seoul is an enormous mega-city but has preserved its ancient history and traditions.
The city is divided into 25 districts which are divided again into so-called ‘Dongs’. The area of most interest for tourist is "Yongsan-gu” and its Dong "Itaewon" which is dominated by visitors and has many restaurants, bars and pubs. Many U.S. soldiers were stationed here which resulted in a sizzling nightlife and turned the district into a centre of entertainment. In addition to a variety of shopping centres and the impressive skyline, "Yongsan-Gu" is also culturally interesting as the most important monuments are located here. Also worth visiting is the district "Jongno-gu” which is the historic town and features many museums, old buildings and palaces. This is also a great place to purchase Asian art and crafts!
Visitors from Australia’s largest airports can catch a non-stop direct flight to Seoul with Qantas, Asiana Airlines and Korean Air. This will take approximately 10 hours and it is worth comparing airline prices to grab a bargain. Travellers from smaller airports such as Adelaide may have to travel via Sydney and the trip can take twice as long if booked on an inconvenient route- so look out for flights that are no longer than 14 hours.
