Savannah Flight Guide
Savannah is a city in the US state of Georgia and was established in 1733 by the English nobleman James Oglethorpe. It is located about 25 km from the Atlantic coast along Savannah River and was a former port for cotton until the Civil War. Tourists can visit the Old Town which is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the US with its leafy squares and many lovingly restored houses.
Riverfront Plaza and Factors' Walk are restored streets which feature warehouses and passages dating back to the 19th Century. The Waving Girl is the city’s landmark and stands on the east bank of Savannah River. City Market is the Old Town centre where tourists can visit historic houses such as the Pink House, Sorrel Weed House and the Owens-Thomas House. There are also numerous churches of different faiths which are worth exploring for all those who are interested in architecture and of course religion. Savannah is also frequently used as setting for film productions such as ‘Forrest Gump’ with Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood’s ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’.
Several US airlines offer flights between Australia and Savannah. However, passengers can expect to travel up to 35 hours if the route is not carefully organised. It is common to stop at least twice on the way, but there are a few quick connections that travellers should look out for. It is possible to reach Savannah within 24 hours and it is recommended to browse the internet to find the quickest possible flights which are often the cheapest ones at the same time.
