Santiago de Chile Flight Guide
With nearly 5.5 million inhabitants, Santiago de Chile is by far the largest city in Chile. It is beautifully surrounded by the snow-capped Andean peaks and is located only 100 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Visitors and locals have almost unlimited recreational options in this area. Santiago de Chile was established in 1541 by Spanish conquerors and is now going through a ‘renaissance’ after being ruled by a military dictatorship.
Exploring Santiago de Chile is fairly easy because the most popular attractions are concentrated in and around the city centre. In particular, the district of Bellavista is of interest for tourists with its important buildings, shops, cultural attractions and nightlife. It is worth visiting the various public parks from where visitors have stunning views of the Andes.
The tourist information centre offers four different walking tours through Santiago available in various languages- this is a great way to start a sightseeing tour. Bella Vista is the artist district of Santiago de Chile and features a wide range of restaurants and pubs. Art lovers can also purchase interesting Chilean items and crafts on one of the various street markets such as Avenida Bernardo O'Higgins (Alameda) and Barrio Bellavista.
Qantas and LAN Airlines offer 1-stop flights from Sydney to Santiago de Chile. Most other airlines offer routes with more stops and therefore longer flight times.
From Sydney, passengers will travel approx. 16- 18 hours. Visitors from other Australian airports may be able to find a short connecting flight but are often likely to travel via Sydney.
