Salt Lake City Flight Guide
Salt Lake City is the capital and largest city of the US state Utah and has approx. 180,000 inhabitants. The city is located in a large valley, the Salt Lake Valley, which is surrounded by the Wasatch Range to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains in the west. It owes its name to the nearby Great Salt Lake.
All attractions in Salt Lake City are centrally located and easily accessible. One of the most famous landmarks is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Mormon faith is strongly represented here and is based on the Book of Mormon by Joseph Smith. The best start for a sightseeing tour is the Visitor Centre where tourists can an update on the latest events and attractions. The Visitor centre is located in the Salt Palace which is the cultural centre of the city. East of the centre lies the Temple Square which is the religious centre of the Mormons. So-called Information Sisters and Brothers take tourists through the premises free of charge. The building is entirely constructed of wood which represents their belief of living a humble life. The ZCMI (Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution) is one of the biggest urban shopping centres in the country. Nearby is the Great Salt Lake which is certainly worth a day trip.
Passengers departing from large Australian airports such as Sydney can reach Salt Lake City within 18 hours on a 1-stop flight which is offered by a number of Australian and US airlines. Travellers from smaller Australian cities may have to stop several times on the way and the flight can be as long as 32 hours- compare airlines to avoid unnecessarily long trips.
