Queenstown Flight Guide

Queenstown is the capital of the Queenstown-Lakes District in the Otago region of New Zealand. It is located on the edge of the New Zealand Alps on the South Island and has 10,400 inhabitants.

Although the city centre is relatively small, there are countless bars and cafes. Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding area is popular among hikers, cyclists and water sport fans. Queenstown is in fact popular for its adventure tourism such as jet boat-driving, bungee jumping and mountain biking. Thus, the former gold mining town is New Zealand’s centre for extreme sports featuring the country’s highest bungee jump (134m). With the cable car (Skyline Gondola) tourists can reach Bob's Peak from where they can take great photographs of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown is also increasing its winter sport popularity and offers numerous activities for skiing and snowboarding fans.

Flights to Queenstown from Australia are rarely non-stop and usually via Auckland or Christchurch. However, flights are not very long- between 6 and 10 hours depending on the departure point. It is worth comparing different airlines for cheap fares and short routes because more stopovers also means higher prices.
