Quebec Flight Guide
Quebec is the largest province of Canada and has the largest French-speaking population. It is situated in the eastern part of the country close to the border between Canada and the United States. It is home to approx. 7.5 million people who were in constant conflict about the official language. In 2006, the Canadian House of Commons passed a symbolic motion recognizing the "Québécois as a nation within a united Canada”, and French is the official language on a provincial level. Quebec’s capital is the same named city of Quebec, but the largest city of the province remains Montreal.
Quebec City was established in the 17th century and is one of the oldest communities on the American continent. Its Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985 and has an irresistible charm with its small alleys and beautiful architecture. Many tourists take a day-trip to Quebec rather than spending several days in the city. All attractions can be explored on foot and every sightseeing tour should include the Chateau Frontenac which is the city’s landmark. Further attractions are Place Royal, Notre-Dame des Victoires, Maison Chevalier, Musée de la Civilisation and La Citadelle.
Those who would like to spend the night in Quebec have a choice of many hotels, most of them in the 4-star category. Popular is the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac which is a majestic piece of architecture and definitely worth a visit even if an overnight stay is too expensive. Flights to Quebec are in any case via Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver- in some cases passengers stop in all of these cities! It is therefore recommended to compare different airlines and routes to avoid travelling all over Canada and spending over 40 hours on an airplane. Alternatively, travellers can stay in one of the larger Canadian cities and take a daytrip to Quebec.
