Port Elizabeth Flight Guide
Port Elizabeth is the fifth largest city of South Africa with approx. 1.2 million inhabitants. The cities of Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Despatch form the District Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality since 2001. Port Elizabeth is a popular recreational area with more sunshine than any other town along the coast. Algoa Bay is a great place for water sports in and under the water - the beaches are packed with sunbathers and surfing, sailing, diving and fishing conditions are excellent.
But also life on land is great- beautiful parks, botanical gardens and natural reserves with exotic birds enchant every visitor. Hiking is a popular activity among tourists and many coastal hiking trails are waiting to be explored. Settlers who arrived around the 1820’s built beautiful houses and buildings which can still be seen today. Since that time, the small settlement developed into a very active city with attractive shops, parks, theatres, museums and restaurants.
Qantas and South African Airways are probably the best option for a flight from Australia to Port Elizabeth. Passengers from Perth, Sydney and most other large Australian airports can reach Port Elizabeth within 20 hours, usually flying via Johannesburg. Travellers from small Australian cities may have to travel up to 32 hours due to more stops on the way.
