Philadelphia Flight Guide

Philadelphia is located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania on the east coast of the country.
The name ‘Philadelphia’ is of Greek origin and can be translated as ‘City of Brotherhood’. With approx. 1.5 inhabitants, it is the largest cities in the region and is beautifully situated along the Delaware River. Twelve districts offer tourists everything they need for a great vacation, whether it might be arts, culture, shopping or just relaxing. Philadelphia was the capital of the US from 1790 to 1800 and looks back on a long and eventful history. Besides being an attraction in itself, Philadelphia is also a great starting point for a tour through the States as it is not far away from New York.

The business district is located in the city centre and apart from being the seat of 9,000 companies, it is also a popular nightlife area. It features more than 200 restaurants, nearly 60 bars and 200 cafes. The district Manayunk is located just a short walk away from the centre between the banks of the Schuylkill and the Manayunk Canal. In addition to designer boutiques and restaurants, Manayunk also has a vibrant nightlife scene. The Old City is the place to go for art lovers who can visit one of the 50 galleries around this area. Shopaholics meet in Chestnut Hill to browse through luxury boutiques, craft shops and sports stores. Those interested in culture should make their way to the historic Germantown as well as the Parkway District to visit the numerous museums of Philadelphia.


Philadelphia International Airport is located 13 km from the city centre and has been named one of the best airports in the US by The Wall Street Journal. Passengers from Australia are strongly advised to compare flight connections and choose a 1-stop flight to avoid long waiting hours and unnecessary stops. Qantas and several US airlines offer flights via San Francisco which have flight durations of 21-22 hours. Passengers departing from small Australian cities may have to travel via Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Brisbane.
