Newcastle Flight Guide

Newcastle upon Tyne is a city in the north east of England located along the River Tyne. It has around 271,000 inhabitants and used to be a Roman fortress called Pons Aelii. A Norman castle was built here around 1080 and the town developed into an important cultural and economic centre. Coal and wool fabrics were already present in the 13th Century and established a successful export business. Until the 19th Century Newcastle was also an important shipbuilding industry and was the former administrative seat of the county of Northumberland.

There are several sights in Newcastle such as the remains of the old city wall and the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas. There are also seven interesting bridges, numerous art galleries and museums including the famous Laing Art Gallery. The Biscuit Factory is an interesting art market which is definitely worth a visit. Newcastle University is also very popular among tourists as well as the beautiful parks such as Jesmond Dene and Leaze's Park. Tourists can also travel to the North Sea by metro within 20-30 minutes.

Visitors can reach Newcastle by ferry or by airplane. Flights from Australia usually involve a stop in Asia and London on the way which results in long flight hours. Those who depart from small Australian airports can expect a third stop within Australia in addition. It is not unusual to fly 22- 36 hours on this route.
