Munich Flight Guide
Munich lies in the heart of Bavaria and is often referred to as Germany's unofficial capital due to its historical significance and cultural richness. With a population of 1.3 million, Munich is the third largest city in Germany and known for its dynamic people with a great sense of hospitality.
Bavarians are proud of their distinct dialect and traditional German folk music which is deeply imbedded in Bavarian culture and lifestyle. Visitors are often attracted by the annual Munich “Oktoberfest” which is by far the most famous beer festival and is celebrated at the end of September. Featuring a fusion of historic and modern architecture, Munich has become one of the most important settings in German history, and contemporary events such as the Olympics and the Football World Cup are held there. Other attractions include the picturesque old town with its gothic-style churches and buildings, the world famous “Hofbräuhaus” for traditional Bavarian dishes and beer, and many memorials honouring anti-war heroes.
Munich has a broad range of hotels to choose from, and visitors are advised to find accommodation close to the city centre from where they can easily access public transport, sightseeing tours and walking tours. Munich’s airport features two terminals and can be reached from all over the world. Sydney Airport has the most convenient connections, offering a direct flight with German airline Lufthansa. British Airways and Qantas will either take you to Frankfurt or London before reaching Munich. However, Qantas offers convenient flight options that include the transfer to Sydney from all other Australian airports. Standard travel time from Sydney to Munich varies between 22 and 24 hours.
