Montreal Flight Guide
Montreal, the second largest city in Canada and second largest French speaking city in the world has great culture, gastronomy, entertainment and shopping opportunities. It is home to the Cirque du Soleil and hosts many international festivals, including "Juste pour rire" the biggest comedy festival in the world. Montreal and its surrounding area is famous for the so-called "Indian Summer" - after the first frost in late October, the temperatures rise once again to above 20°C degrees and paints the forest in beautiful autumn colours.
The central district of Montreal is called Vieux-Marie and is a charming neighbourhood with excellent shops. It is also the historic centre and features a very old harbour. The Latin Quarter is near the university campus and is filled with a diverse cultural life and numerous cafes, restaurants, theatres, bookstores and small shops that have a very special flair. The nightlife takes place in Rue St. Denis. Between River St. Lawrence River and Mount Royal is the main business district of the city. In this area tourists can also find the largest Underground City in the world. Visitors can actually walk through the Underground City and shop, eat or even watch a movie in one of the cinemas!
The best time to visit Montreal is in spring or autumn, however expect rainfall throughout the year. From October to May it might snow and get very cold. Air Canada offers flights from Australian cities to Montreal, usually via Vancouver. Also check with US and domestic airlines as they may add a non-stop flight during high season. On average travellers will fly 20-24 hours.
