Monte Carlo Flight Guide
Monte Carlo is a district in Monaco and has become famous through the numerous casinos and wealthy residents. It is often called the capital of Monaco which is wrong- Monaco is a city state and doesn’t have a capital as such. Monte Carlo owes its name to Prince Charles III who built a casino in this former undeveloped space in the 1860’s. Thanks to the popularity of his casino, the surrounding area was named Quartier de Monte Carlo.
One of the largest annual events is the Monte Carlo Rally as well as the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco. While Monte Carlo is not famous for any attractions, it is the place to be for Europe’s rich and famous- countless designer boutiques, yacht clubs and expensive hotels dominate the area. It also has a cathedral, the Napoleon Museum and the Prince’s Palace which are all worth a visit. Very well known is also the Opera de Monte Carlo (also called Salle Garnier) which is a replica of the Opera House in Paris.
Since Monte Carlo is a major destination for the wealthy, hotel prices are through the roof. On the bright side, the suites are pure luxury and worth every penny. To dine and sleep in style, check out Hotel de Paris, Le Meridien Beach Plaza, Fairmont Monte Carlo and Hermitage which are considered the most popular hotels among the elite. Flying to Monte Carlo can be very difficult- check out British Airways, Qantas and Lufthansa to find a good connection. Flights are usually only offered from Australia’s largest cities and the travel time is around 30 hours including 3 stops.
