Ljubljana Flight Guide
Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia with 278,000 inhabitants. Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia between 1918 and 1991 when it declared independence. Before that, Ljubljana was occupied by the French, Italians and Germans which resulted in a great cultural diversity.
The city centre is filled with beautiful old buildings and rich history. The Old Town is a must-see for all visitors which is also the major location of all important churches. It is also host to music events in summer and has become famous through the renowned Music Academy. Ljubljana seems like an Austrian city at first because of the similar architecture that can be found in Vienna. On the other hand is has strong Mediterranean influences which are particularly visible in the field of gastronomy and the great sense of hospitality among locals. South of the bridge Šentjakobski is a popular meeting spot on weekends and at night. Worth seeing is also the weekend market around St. Nicholas Church.
The winter in Ljubljana can bring along temperatures below 0°C. It is therefore best to plan a trip in the summer months between June and August. Although Ljubljana is the capital city, its airport is not very big. Thus, flying from Australia often takes very long and involves at least 2 stops if not more. Expect average flight times between 30 to 43 hours.
