Lisbon Flight Guide
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is located in the southwest of Europe by the Tejos estuary. The city has a metropolitan area of approximately 2.6 million people and is fantastically located near the Atlantic ocean. 6 Universities, a rich history, many attractions, theatres, museums, churches and nearby lagoons make Lisbon the ideal destination for a great holiday
Lisbon is divided into 4 districts and the oldest part of the town is Alfama, which is also the main area of interest. It remained largely undamaged despite a number of earthquakes. Visitors can explore the Sé Patriarchal Cathedral which is the oldest church of the city, as well as the church of St. Anthony. At the Torre de Belem, a city landmark and a UNESCO world heritage site, tourists can enjoy a beautiful view over the whole city. On the way back to downtown, it is worthwhile to look at the aristocratic Chiado and go on a shopping spree in the district of Baixa, which features expensive shops and chic fashion boutiques. For a great night out, go to Bairro Alto which has the most vibrant nightlife in Lisbon.
Due to its Atlantic air, Lisbon has mild temperatures all year round and tourists tend to go during the summer months between June and August. To avoid the crowds, travel in May or September when most people have left but the weather is still nice and sunny. British Airways, Qantas, Lufthansa and Air France are some of the airlines that service Lisbon airport. However, coming from Australia means stopping several times so that the journey can take up to 40 hours.
