La Paz Flight Guide
The city of ‘La Paz’ (which means ‘Peace’) is the administrative centre of Bolivia and is home to approximately 2 million people. The city centre is dominated by large neon signs and posters as well as many shops and modern office buildings. Worth seeing is the church of San Francisco which has a long history going back to 1549.
Just like in all other Bolivian cities, La Paz has many market halls and street markets, but also features rather bizarre so-called "Witch Markets" which are the places to go for spiritual goods. Among the many museums is the popular Coca Museum which explains the history of coca and its development from being a cult to its use in modern medicine. The city itself is divided into two parts: the northern part which includes the city centre and the southern part which is of little interest for tourists as it consists mainly of residential houses.
The best time to visit La Paz is between April and November. During this period, visitors can explore the city while enjoying a little sunshine and avoiding rain. Unfortunately, the airport of La Paz is rather small and flights are only offered from the largest Australian cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. Be prepared to fly all over Latin America before reaching La Paz and expect journey times of up to 50 hours. It is recommended to make a visit to La Paz as part of a larger trip through South America, that way passengers can avoid travelling this long in one go.
