Krakow Flight Guide
Krakow is located in the southern part of Poland close to the upper Vistula estuary. It was the capital of Poland until 1596 when Warsaw was named the new capital. Krakow is home to the second oldest university of Central Europe and has developed into a centre of industry, economy and culture. The historic town of Krakow is characterized by various buildings of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. The history of Krakow goes back thousands of years – the first settlers of Wawel Hill arrived 20,000 years ago.
The Castle and Cathedral of Warsaw are located on Wawel Hill and are definitely worth a visit. The city is also known for its entertainment and nightlife, featuring numerous theatres, cabarets and cinemas. The Rynek Glówny is the historical centre and features a number of very old buildings and astonishing architecture. There are also several churches and chapels to be visited as well as a range of museums. The Jewish quarter Kazimierz was the setting for Spielberg’s movie “Schindler’s List“and is popular among tourists.
The winter in Krakow gets very cold with average temperatures below -5°C. The best time to visit is between June and August to enjoy some sunshine and avoid rain and snowfall. There are a number of European airlines to choose from but passengers from all over Australia will have to stop at least twice on the way and expect flight durations of up to 42 hours.
