Hanoi Flight Guide
With its 6 million inhabitants Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam but not the economic centre of the country. Visitors recognise this very quickly due to the poorly developed infrastructure. However, the lack of modern commodities has also a positive side as the city of Hanoi has preserved its thousand-year history until today. In the city centre visitors can explore over 600 temples of magnificent architecture with a colonial charm.
A good starting point for a tour through Hanoi is the Old Town which is located north of Lake Hoan Liem and is still partly surrounded by ancient city walls. The narrow streets and small alleys are the remains of historic Hanoi, and a stroll along the Old Town takes visitors back thousands of years. The historic centre is also popular among students and backpackers due to the low accommodation prices. There is also an interesting night market in this area which is worth a visit. To the west is Hanoi's largest lake, Lake Tay, where visitors can dine while having a beautiful lakeside view. This is also the ideal place for a lunch or dinner after visiting the nearby Ho Chi Minh mausoleum.
Noibai Airport is located approximately 40km north of Hanoi and is only the second largest in the country, but offers a range of connections to Australia. Several Asian airlines offer flights with an average journey time of 15 to 21 hours (depending on departure city and connections). The journey from Hanoi airport to the city centre is often somewhat difficult because of the heavy traffic.
