Hamburg Flight Guide
Hamburg is often called “The High and Gate to Northern Germany” and is an important player in the European shipping industry. It is the second-largest city in Germany and is home to some of the most wealthy Germans among the 1.7 million inhabitants. Due to its maritime flair is has become a popular destination for sailing lovers and visitors who enjoy a fresh Nordic breeze.
In the last decade, Hamburg has transformed itself to a shopping capital featuring modern shopping malls, designer shops and cosy cafes all over the city. In the heart of Hamburg lies Lake Alster and its picturesque line of white houses, beautiful parks, expensive neighbourhoods and sailing boats that glide across the water. This area is one of the most expensive in the city and a boat ride across the Alster is a must for every tourist. One of the attractions that make visitors come from all over the world is St. Pauli and its famous sinful mile called ‘Reeperbahn’, Europe’s largest red-light district. The main attraction of Hamburg, however, remains the harbour and the easiest way to discover it is with a boat trip and a stroll along the River Elbe.
Hamburg’s climate is rather mild due to its maritime location and the best time to visit is between June and August to avoid heavy rain showers and cold winds. Visitors who are looking for accommodation with a stunning view should book with one of the hotels located along the Alster such as Novotel Hamburg, Hotel Alster-Hof or Hotel Ibis Hamburg. Alternatively, there are plenty of hotels located in the city centre which are less pricy. There are no direct flights between Australia and Hamburg. The best way to visit Hamburg is to book flights with Qantas, British Airways or Lufthansa, which will take you to a larger European destination such as London or Frankfurt and connect you to a flight to Hamburg.
