Glasgow Flight Guide
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland with nearly 600,000 inhabitants. It has a glamorous reputation and Glasgow locals are known for their good manners and classy fashion. In fact, Glasgow (and of course London) are considered the best places for shopping in the UK. Just a stroll is a unique experience due to Glasgow’s magnificent Victorian style architecture and the recently restored Old Town. It is also a perfect place for budget-conscious culture lovers as many museums are free of charge.
The best way to start a tour through Glasgow is a bus tour; most sightseeing buses begin their tour on George Square and tickets are valid for 2 days, offering passengers to hop on/hop off at the numerous stops. George Square is also the place to start a walking tour through the beautifully restored Victorian Centre and the nearby tourist information office gives out maps and guides. Most museums, attractions and sights are located here in the city centre. Shopaholics will get their fix in Argyle Street, Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street. Shoppers can choose between second-hand markets, shopping malls and designer boutiques. Young Glasgow and students usually prefer the West End where visitors will find a sizzling nightlife with countless pubs, bars and shops.
Most tourists visit Glasgow between June and August when the temperatures rise to 18°C. Throughout the year, Glasgow has traditional ‘British’ weather which implies rain, wind and a grey sky. However, even in winter temperatures rarely fall below 0°C and Glasgow is a great place to visit all year round- just remember to take a thick, rainproof jacket. Two airports welcome tourists every year and the one to book to from Australia is Glasgow International Airport. British Airways and Qantas are the airlines to choose from and although flights leave from most major airports, the best flight connections are from Sydney. With the usual stop in London, flight duration varies between 24 and 27 hours.
