Frankfurt Flight Guide
Frankfurt/Main has been one of the major German cities since the Middle Ages. It is mostly known for its significance as the European Financial centre and Hessian Capital. Frankfurt features a lively and varied theatre scene and the famous Frankfurt Book Fair.
One of the districts in Frankfurt that is certainly worth seeing is the Old Town, although most buildings are reconstructions and not that old. This is due to the enormous damage of buildings during World War 2, and most buildings were built in the post-war period. Hence the Old Town attracts visitors because of its cultural events and museums rather than historic architecture. Frankfurt can be visited at any time of the year as it has a mild climate and is particularly interesting for business and commerce. However, travellers who want to avoid snow and ice should try not to schedule their trip between November and February.
Frankfurt’s airport used to be the largest and most important one in Europe but has been overtaken by London and Paris. Nevertheless, all major airlines serve this airport and Australians will be able to travel to Frankfurt from all main airports comfortably without having to catch connecting flights in Europe. The average flight duration is 20 hours. Frankfurt also has an elaborate train network which visitors can use to get to other German destinations. ICE trains (Inter City Express) are the fastest in the world and operate all over Germany, able to reach a speed up to 400km/h.
