Fes (Fez) Flight Guide
Fes, or Fez as it is called in Arabic, is the 3rd largest city in Morocco with 1.2 million inhabitants. It is the spiritual centre of the country and the oldest of the 4 royal cities which are Fes, Marrakech, Meknès and Rabat. It is also home to the second-oldest Islamic University called Karaouyine.
The mausoleum of Moulay Idris, the Royal Palace and the Gerber area are the main attractions of Fes. Fez el-Bali is the old town established in the 9th century and can be very confusing with its small alleys and labyrinths. It is strongly recommended to use a guide and study maps before commencing a tour of the city. After a brief overview and route planning, visitors can explore the oldest, most stunning historical areas of Morocco. There are also numerous bazaars around Fes which are a great place to mingle among locals and purchase authentic Islamic and Arabic items.
The best months to visit Fes are May and June which promise sunny weather without the summer heat waves. Royal Air Morocco and Emirates offer flights between Sydney and Fes. Generally speaking, the flight is very long due to many stops as the airport at Fes is rather small. On average, passengers stop at least 3 times and the journey takes around 34 – 40 hours.
