Edinburgh Flight Guide
The Scottish capital located on the east coast of Britain was once an industrial town. Today, almost half a million people live in Edinburgh. The history in Scotland and also of Edinburgh is very long and has created many traditions. Before merging with England, Scotland was an independent kingdom and has preserved its own Celtic language called Gaelic or Scots. However, English is the second official language and spoken everywhere. Some very famous people were born in Edinburgh such as actor Sean Connery and former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair.
Edinburgh is rich in tradition and culture, and visitors are enchanted by the Celtic charm of Scotland. Among the most striking sights is probably Edinburgh Castle, which has 1300 years of history. Inside the castle is the oldest surviving chapel, St Margaret's Chapel. Edinburgh also has many museums that tell the story of the city or introduce Scottish history. Also very famous are the spooky Edinburgh vaults and the haunted underground city which visitors can explore on guided tours only. Tourists should also try authentic Scotch and dine in a fish restaurant- Scotland is known for its fresh fish and delicious Scottish salmon.
Edinburgh offers accommodation for every budget- one of the nicest hotels is the Bonham Hotel which has a Victorian design. British Airways and Qantas are probably the best airlines to choose on a trip from Australia to Edinburgh. Unfortunately, Edinburgh airport is primarily used for European flights so that Australian passengers experience long journey times and several stops. Flying from Sydney takes around 27 hours with stops in Asia and London on the way.
