Durban Flight Guide
Durban is located along the Indian Ocean on the east coast of South Africa. With over 3.1 million inhabitants, it is the largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and the second largest city in South Africa. Durban is a major port and industrial centre with the largest harbour in Africa. Due to its beautiful beaches and subtropical climate, it is a much-visited tourist destination.
Durban offers a wide range of cultural events, attractions and leisure facilities. The beachfront Golden Mile has a number of bars and restaurants and is a popular spot for surfers, kite surfers and water sport fans. Due to a large number of sharks in the area, the beaches are surrounded by shark nets to protect holidaymakers. The Gateway Shopping Centre is the largest shopping mall in Africa and perfect for a shopping spree. The uShaka Marine World features many aquariums and various shows which are worth seeing. Just north of Durban by the coast is Umhlanga Rocks, a popular excursion destination.
Tourists are advised to book a hotel near the seafront to avoid having to use a taxi every day. It takes around 17 hours to get to Durban with Qantas. Travellers usually stop in Johannesburg if flying from larger Australian airports. Passengers may also stop in Sydney or Melbourne if departing from a smaller city.
