Delhi Flight Guide
Delhi refers to a metropolitan area in the heart of northern India and includes the country’s capital New Delhi. It is located by River Yamuna and counting all suburbs, it is home to almost 16 million people, which makes it India’s largest metropolis. Delhi has an average annual temperature of 26°C with very dry air. The extremely bad air conditions are reason for making it one of the 5 most polluted places worldwide. Delhi is the administrative headquarters of India and is also a popular location of electronic, textile and telecommunication companies.
Delhi’s countless monuments and beautiful architecture are waiting to be discovered; some of them are Jantar Mantar, Sansad Bahvan, Rashtrapati Bhavan to name a few. The India Gate is also a must-see for every tourist. Delhi's largest building is "Lal Qila" which means ‘Red Fort’ and is located in the north-eastern corner of the old Shahjahanabad. The thick red sandstone walls and towers are surrounded by a broad dry moat. Delhi's Jami Masjid is the largest mosque in India and can fit up to 25,000 people. It was designed by Shah Jahan who was very passionate about architecture. Delhi is also a great place to purchase silk, textiles and souvenirs in one of the numerous markets or in classy boutiques.
There are many cheap places to stay in Delhi, but it is recommended to read online reviews before booking as many hotels may not meet Australian Standards. Among the most famous ones are The Oberoi, The Taj Mahal Hotel, Le Meridien, The Radisson and Uppal’s Orchid. Australians can reach Delhi with Qantas and Singapore Airlines with an average travel time of 15-18 hours.
