Chiang Mai is the second largest province of Thailand and is situated in the northeast of the country. The province capital is also called Chiang Mai and is home to the mountain Doi Inthanon. It is divided into 24 districts known as Amphoe and has a total population 1.6 million people. Besides the capital city of Chiang Mai, the most important cities are Fang, Chiang Dao and Chom Thong. The province is a natural beauty with truly stunning waterfalls such as Mae Sa and several parks like Doi Inthanon and Doi Phahom Pok.
Despite modern influences, Chiang Mai has its own traditional charm. The city attracts not only foreign tourists but also Thai’s from other cities due to its mild climate during the summer.
Chiang Mai has a large selection of hotels in various categories. The Empress Hotel and the Princess Chiang Mai are located within walking distance of the city centre and evening market. Another very expensive and luxurious hotel is the Regent Chiang Mai, which is surrounded by an Orchid Garden.
