Budapest Flight Guide
The Hungarian capital Budapest is the largest city in the country with nearly 2 million residents. It is the cultural and economic centre and used to be separated into three parts called Buda, Pest and Obuda. Today Budapest consists of 23 districts designed according to Vienna’s model. In fact, the previous Habsburg monarchy can still be felt all around the city.
The Budapest Chain Bridge connects Buda and Pest, and is a good landmark to help general orientation. Visitors can explore the numerous historic sights, lovely squares and impressive palaces designed with stunning architectural designs along River Danube. The part formerly known as Buda is located in the centre of Trinity Square which is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the district. On the opposite side of the River Danube lies Pest, where tourists can find the main shopping streets of Budapest as well as fashionable bistros, ethnic restaurants, local yuppies and street performers. Also worth a visit is the Parliament House where tourists can join a tour inside the building.
Guests who want to spend the night in style and experience the rich tradition of Budapest should book with the 4-star Danubius Hotel Gellert which is located by the picturesque riverside. Other luxury hotels include the Four Seasons Gresham Palace Budapest, the Kempinski Hotel Corvinius and the Grand Hotel Royal. 2-Star accommodation is fairly cheap yet tasteful, such as The Marco Polo Hostel or the Hotel Papillon. Australians can travel from Sydney and Melbourne in one of Qantas’ frequent flights via London or Frankfurt. Passengers from other cities can still travel to Budapest but will have to fly via Sydney or Melbourne in addition to the stops in Europe. Thus, travel time can be anywhere between 28 and 40 hours.
