Bucharest Flight Guide
Bucharest is not only the capital of Romania but also the economic and cultural centre of the country. It attracts tourists mainly because of the remarkable architectural diversity and rich cultural sites. The city is packed with theatres, concert halls, museums and art galleries. Bucharest is also a great place to go shopping and has a dazzling nightlife with numerous pubs, clubs and restaurants. There are also plenty of parks and idyllic gardens to relax and freshen up after a long sightseeing tour.
The long history of Bucharest is reflected in its stunning Old Town which features small alleys and imposing buildings. Around one fifth of the city was destroyed by dictator Ceausescu to make room for the so-called Centrul Civic. This part of the city is characterised by long boulevards and masterful buildings which the dictator wanted to be in a Paris-style design. The highlight of Ceausescu's megalomania is the Parliament Palace which is considered the second largest building in the world.
During the summer months the average temperatures are around 27 °C and in winter usually 2-3°C. The best time to go is April when the weather is warm and the tourist crowds have not yet arrived. Air France and British Airways are the airlines to choose from on a trip to Bucharest. As passengers usually travel via London, the average journey time is around 30 hours from Sydney and may be even longer from other Australian airports.
