Bergen Flight Guide
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway with 252,000 inhabitants. It is known for the Bryggen Maritime Quarter, the fish markets, the mountains and fjords in the surrounding area such as the Hardangerfjord and the Sognefjord. Bergen has become an international city with a long history and ancient traditions. Despite all the modern influences, Bergen has preserved the charm and atmosphere of a small town. It offers an ideal combination of nature, stimulating culture and city life.
The first buildings in Bergen were built alongside the old quay walls called Bryggen. It has been the living heart of the city for centuries and the historic buildings from the Maritime era have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Culture lovers will be able to see some of Norway’s most famous and astonishing medieval buildings around this area. After a short ride with the cable car (Fløibanen) visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city from the top of Mount Fløien. Also worth a stroll are the Bergen Fish Market and the hillside where tourists can explore the typical Scandinavian wooden houses and walk through narrow streets called ‘Smau’.
For an authentic Scandinavian experience, visitors should stay in traditional wooden houses or cottages. However, there are also hostels and camping sites for those who wish to spend less on accommodation. Malaysian airlines collaborate with KLM and offer some flights from Australia to Bergen with average flight durations of 27 – 30 hours. The journey may become longer if travelling from smaller Australian airports.
