Baton Rouge Flight Guide
Baton Rouge is the capital of US state Louisiana and is home to 774,000 people. The first Europeans who explored the area were from France, hence the French name ‘Baton Rouge’ which means ‘Red Stick’. It is situated by the Mississippi River and is known for its good educational institutions such as the Southern University.
The city centre offers many outdoor and indoor sights, one of them being the Old Southern plantations. A boat tour is also a great way to explore Baton Rouge and there are many open air festivals during the summer. Baton Rouge is also known for its delicious Creole cuisine in the countless great restaurants.
Australian visitors need to have a lot of patience for a trip to Baton Rouge as the journey can take more than 30 hours. Qantas, Vaustralia and several US airlines offer flights, however with long stops and inconvenient connections. It is recommended to take a trip to Houston or Los Angeles before continuing to Baton Rouge- this would make the trip worth the trouble.
