With its 1.3 million people, Auckland the largest city of New Zealand and is surrounded by many beautiful bays. Maori is the language of the natives and has gained official language status along with English. Auckland is multicultural with many religious communities and a variety of different nationalities. Typical for Auckland are the numerous sport venues and events which attract many visitors every year. Trade and Finance have been the major income source, but tourism is increasingly becoming more important to Auckland’s economy. Two of the major attractions are the harbour, the massive aquarium and the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Auckland has a stunning location featuring around 50 inactive volcanoes, breathtaking bays and beautiful gardens. Due to its sailing industry and countless sailboats along the bays, Auckland gained its nickname “City of Sails”.
The famous Sky Tower is located right in Auckland’s heart at Waitemata Harbour. Parnell is the ultimate shopping centre where visitors can shop in expensive boutiques and dine in noble restaurants. A number of art galleries and museums are also located in Parnell, which is a good way to learn about Maori culture. A visit to the fish markets is also a great way to spend the day, especially the ones on High Street and Vulcan Lane. A trip to the top of Mount Eden is a must for those wanting to overview the city and take photographs of its magnificent bays.

The summer in Auckland is long, warm and humid and temperatures are mild all year round. A trip to Auckland is possible all year round and the best time to go depends on personal preferences such as a fresh breeze (winter) or unlimited sunshine (summer). Auckland has the largest airport in New Zealand and Australians can fly with Qantas, Air New Zealand and several Asian airlines from all major Australian airports.
