With its 1.3 million people, Auckland the largest city of New Zealand and is surrounded by many beautiful bays. Due to its sailing industry and countless sailboats along the bays, Auckland gained its nickname “City of Sails”. The famous Sky Tower is located right in Auckland’s heart at Waitemata Harbour. Parnell is the ultimate shopping centre where visitors can shop in expensive boutiques and dine in noble restaurants. A number of art galleries and museums are also located in Parnell, which is a good way to learn about Maori culture. A visit to the fish markets is also a great way to spend the day, especially the ones on High Street and Vulcan Lane. A trip to the top of Mount Eden is a must for those wanting to overview the city and take photographs of its magnificent bays.
The summer in Auckland is long, warm and humid and temperatures are mild all year round. A trip to Auckland is possible all year round and the best time to go depends on personal preferences such as a fresh breeze (winter) or unlimited sunshine (summer). Auckland has the largest airport in New Zealand and Australians can fly with Qantas, Air New Zealand and several Asian airlines from all major Australian airports. Flight hours are between 3 and 8 hours depending on where passengers depart from.
