Atlanta Flight Guide
Atlanta is the capital of the US State Georgia with an urban area of more than 5 million inhabitants. Settlers established the city in 1823 and it played a crucial role in the American Civil War. Atlanta was referred to as “The Gateway to the South” due to its rail network that enabled trips to all cities of the South. During the Civil War, it was fiercely battled by both parties and memories of that time are deeply painful. Atlanta has many great sons and daughters but the most famous person is probably Dr. Martin Luther King.
Atlanta has four major university campuses which are a popular meeting point for students. The university areas feature pubs, cafes and an energetic nightlife for young visitors. Museums and art galleries are located near the Arts and Design College from where tourists can stroll to Peachtree Street and explore the numerous historical buildings. Atlanta is a fairly ‘green’ city with many parks and beautiful squares. Ansley Mall, Windsor Shopping Centre and Philipps Plaza Mall are some of the best places for a shopping spree.
Popular hotel chains are all over Atlanta and browsing for offers online is a good way to choose a suitable room and find reasonable prices. You may find discounts for students, large groups or senior citizens and save on accommodation costs. Qantas/British Airways offer flights in collaboration with US or Canadian airlines. Direct flights are not available so passengers will stop in a few cities before reaching Atlanta so that the flight time can be anything from 21 to 30 hours.
