The Principality of Monaco is a sovereign city state in southern Europe on the Mediterranean coast. The French city of Nice is to its west and Genoa to its north. The official language is French. The Monaco grand prix has been held annually in Monaco since 1929 and attracts many visitors. Even older is the Monte Carlo rally which has been held since 1911. The hottest months are from June to September and the coldest from December to March. Rainfall is heaviest from November to January. Monte Carlo International Airport (IATA: MCM) is the only international airport in Monaco. Flights including indirect flights from Australia are difficult to get. The average direct flight time from Sydney or Melbourne to Monaco in a commercial airliner is 21 hours.
