Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the Peoples Republic of China. It is a former British colony which was ceded to China after Britain transferred sovereignty to China on 1st July 1997. However, it remains largely self governing. Hong Kong is located to the south of Guangdong on the South China Sea. The official languages are English and Chinese. Hong Kong is famous for its skyline, shopping venues and nightlife. Many Chinese festivals are celebrated all year round. There are four seasons in Hong Kong. Winter can get to 10 degrees Celsius while summer is hot and humid averaging 30 degrees Celsius. During spring from March to May and autumn from September to December, temperatures average 25 degrees Celsius. The main international airport in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG).
