The Republic of Croatia is located in south Eastern Europe and is bordered by Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia to the north east, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the east and Montenegro to the south east. Croatia also has a Mediterranean sea coastline. The capital and largest city is Zagreb. Other notable cities include; Split, Rijeka and Osijek. The official language in Croatia is Croatian. Croatia has seven UNESCO world heritage sites namely; Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian , Old City of Dubrovnik , Plitvice Lakes National Park, Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Porec , Historic City of Trogir , The Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik and The Stari Grad Plain - island of Hvar. In addition to these sites that a visitor can visit, there are caves to explore and national parks filled with flora and fauna. The weather reflects mixed climate. The coastline is Mediterranean while the north and north east experience continental weather patterns. The main international airport in Croatia is Zagreb Airport (IATA: ZAG). Other major airports include; Osijek Airport (IATA: OSI), Split Airport (IATA: SPU) and Rijeka Airport (IATA: RJK). There are no direct flights to Croatia from Australia. Austrian Airlines and Qantas offer indirect flights from the main departure airports of Sydney Kingsford Smith, Perth, Melbourne Tullamarine and Brisbane. The average direct flight time from Sydney or Melbourne to Zagreb in Croatia in a commercial airliner is 20 hours.
