The Federal Republic of Brazil is the largest country in South America and the 5th largest in the world. It is also the 5th most populous country in the world with a population of almost 200 million. The weather in Brazil is very diverse due to the huge territory and ranges from equatorial to sub tropical. The average annual temperature in Rio can hit 40 degrees Celsius in summer. The main airport in Brazil is São Paulo/Guarulhos – Governor André Franco Montero International Airport (IATA: GRU) in Sao Paulo. Other major airports are Rio de Janeiro/Galeão - Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (IATA: GIG) in Rio, Pampulha - Carlos Drummond de Andrade Airport in Belo Horizonte Airport (IATA: PLU) and Tancredo Neves International Airport (IATA: CNF). There are no direct flights from Australia to Brazil. However, Qantas and Delta airlines offer indirect flights to the Brazilian capital, Sao Paulo as well as Rio de Janeiro. The main departure cities from Australia are Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Hamilton Island. The average direct flight time from Sydney Kingsford Smith or Melbourne Tullamarine to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in a commercial airliner is 16 and a half hours.
