Bangladesh Flight Guide

Bangladesh is located in south Asia and is the 7th most populous country in the world with a population of over 160 million. Its capital and largest city is Dhaka. Other major cites include Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet. The official language is Bengali though English is also widely spoken. Bangladesh has the largest mangrove forest in the world where the Bengal tiger and deer can be seen in the south west. In addition, one can enjoy the sandy beaches and hilly recluses in Chittagong as well a see migratory birds in Sylhet. There are also numerous archaeological sites, Buddhist monasteries and Hindu temples in the northern part of the country.

Winter in Bangladesh runs from October to March and is usually mild. Summer is hot and humid and runs from mid march to June. Some areas of Bangladesh are prone to flooding between March and June.

The main international airport in Bangladesh is Zia International Airport (IATA: DAC) in Dhaka. The other two major airports are Shah Amanat International Airport (IATA: CGP) in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport (IATA: ZYL) in Sylhet. There are no direct flights from Australia to Bangladesh. Singapore Airlines offer cheap indirect flights from Melbourne Tullamarine and Sydney Kingsford Smith. The average direct flight time from Sydney or Melbourne to Dhaka in Bangladesh in a commercial airliner is 11 hours. Indirect flights will vary depending on the connecting hub.
