Last year Tullamarine airport saw 4.38 million international and 17.81 million domestic passengers through its doors. But now, Tullamarine is getting a $330 million makeover. The terminal, known as T2 at the airport, is getting a brand new customs area with extra processing desks and a new passenger concourse.
Not only this but T2 is increasing its retail and lounge space by 50 per cent and now travellers will be able to relax to views of the airfield through massive 10m high windows. On top of this, there will be two extra baggage carousels and improved baggage handling, at least 10 new stores, an increase in x-ray screening stations to keep the whole security screening process faster and more stress-free.
Work on this project is due to start this year, with the full project description and outline unveiled at the Melbourne Museum on the 27th of August. The plan is to have the work done in stages to minimise any disruption or inconvenience caused while the construction goes ahead. This project will create 1,000 local jobs and is set to revolutionise the passenger and transit experience at the airport in the future.
