Top five tips for travelling on a budget – Four

Plan and book ahead.

When travelling on a budget the best way to save money is to have a really good plan of what it is you want to do, what you want to see, and to book as much in advance as you can. Backpackers and other hotels will give you a discount booking ahead of time, and will often give you a discount if you are booking for more than a couple of nights in a row. So, do your research and choose what you want to do and when you want to do it, remember, alterations can be made, and it's great to leave things to chance and keep some things impulsive… but if you are trying to save money, planning is definitely the way to go.

Get your hands on a good budget travel guide… the travel book/guide is the budget travellers best friend, it gives you a chance to fully research your destination, weigh up the pro's and con's of every activity and it gives you great suggestions for cheap (and clean) places to sleep, eat and play…

Some of the best budget travel guides also have great websites, I'd suggest checking out the following:

Lonely planet www.lonelyplanet.com

Frommers www.frommers.com

Let's go www.letsgo.com

These are a great place to get started planning your adventure.
