Top five tips for travelling on a budget – Two

Accomplish lightweight travel (Backpackers)

When you are travelling on a budget, you need to make sure that you travel light. Travelling light will not only ensure that you avoid any over-weight baggage fines, but it also means that it is easier for you to carry your bag from place to place as you are carrying, as on a budget, you will be on buses and on your feet instead of in taxis.

So, when you are packing, you should group your things into three piles, the essential, probably essential, and not really essential. And then eliminate all of not really essential and half of your ‘probably' file. It sounds dramatic, but this will begin the process you need to go through to make sure you are carrying as little as possible. Be realistic!

Take your medication, but don't take loads of toiletries. Only take things that you won't be able to purchase cheaply whilst you are travelling. Do laundry whilst travelling so you don't need to carry as many clothes with you.

Take one or two books, most backpackers have a book-swap shelf, where you can leave a book you have already enjoyed behind and pick up a new one to entertain you on the next bus trip.

Pack smart and travel light! This also leaves you the space to bring home souvenirs that you pick up along the way without risk of fine.
